Tennis

Tennis is a racket sport played either individually against a single opponent (singles) or between two teams of two players each (doubles). The objective is to hit a lightweight ball over a net into the opponent’s court, with the aim of scoring points by making the ball land in the playable area of the court. Players use tennis rackets to strike the ball, and the game is typically played on various surfaces such as grass, clay, or hard courts. Scoring in tennis follows a unique system: points are counted as 15, 30, 40, and then game. A player must win at least six games to win a set and usually best of three or five sets to win a match. Tennis is governed by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and has a rich history, with major tournaments including the Grand Slam events: the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open. The sport emphasizes skill, strategy, and athleticism and can be played recreationally or competitively.
