Mirandés

Mirandés refers to a Romance language spoken in the northeastern region of Portugal, primarily in the village of Miranda do Douro. It is a minority language and is considered part of the Asturleonese linguistic group, which also includes languages like Leonese and Asturian. Mirandés has its own distinct grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation, and it is recognized by the Portuguese government as a co-official language in the municipality of Miranda do Douro. The language has historical roots and has been subject to revitalization efforts to preserve its use among local speakers. Despite its status as a minority language, it holds cultural significance for the local population and contributes to the region’s identity.
